Rodrigo Spinel

Bogotá, Colombia 1986. Architect from the Universidad de los Andes. From a young age he began to experiment with drawing and developed a fixation on detail, meticulousness, effort and discipline; attributes you have sought and admired. He discovered in drawing a tool that in addition to representing spaces can transmit ideas and feelings, and has used it to show his fascination with detail and the way in which its repetition builds each work.

Line Illusions Project

The work consists of around 60 drawings made with Chinese ink on different types of paper. It was exhibited for the first time during the month of October 2018 at the sixth Millon fair in Bogotá, Colombia. Since then different sources of the project have been exhibited in galleries and events such as ARCOT (Colombian Artists in Tokyo) or the Gallery the garage.

The project seeks to highlight the potential of the line which, when repeated, is capable of creating complex images. With the patience, concentration and perseverance dedicated to building the drawing, the work of the stonemason who evokes one by one from the simplest to the most complex of constructions is evoked. Like the brick on a wall, the line shows that its value does not exist as a unit but as part of a set, and it is there where its importance is appreciated.
